Podcast seems to be a very professional product
I listened to (and watched) a lecture on stem cell research from a university library, an author speak about her books, a lecture on writing and a professional story reading. What a great way to reach and share with all your patrons. Were you busy on Wednesday and missed programing at the library?, not to worry listen/watch it on a pocast (vodcast) on Friday. Having trouble with a painting technique? Hunt it down on the internet. Teens have got to love this. A library could podcast all their speakers (with their permission) and podcasts could be repeated at intervals to catch new patrons or a younger generation. I had trouble viewing some of them, couldn't open others but I finally saw enough to see that this would be great for the library. I typed in knitting and podcasts and came up with lots of sights to check out again I had trouble opening the actual podcast but saw one that gave a demo on casting on. I will do this search again from home where I know I can view them all.

YouTube
This was so interesting!
The videos were a gambit of styles, some more professional then others.
I found 4 videos that I would like to talk about the first is A quick Tour of Gail Borden Library I searched by library and came up with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB5jgcOsRd8 it was a short tour of the Library.
2. A picture tour of the Seattle Library set to music very well done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLugNTpFZ4I
3. Arlington Heights Behind the scenes in TS is very funny and clever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6iRDOe4Bw4 maybe this hit home because I work in TS
4. Our own URI Toch being interviewed, as always he is very well spoken http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvMbHEjRgRg
I think we could do a video about any of the departments. But if it was going to be for patrons then I would recommend doing one on RA maybe a day in the life of or possibly showing the process of helping a patron from start to the finish with them getting the type of book the y were looking for

Flickr
Okay been there, done that, got the tee shirt. I don't know if I would have a need to do this again but I could if I wanted to. I took pictures at home with my digital camera, placed the disc in the reader attached to my home computer, opened them up and dragged and dropped onto (into?) my thumb drive and carted them off to work. Had no trouble with the thumb drive and getting the pictures to show but ran into a problem saving them to my work computer. Once I figured which program to open them with so I could save them on my computer everything was fine. the actual upload to Flickr was easy. So I now have a picture on Flickr
BlogLine
What can I say about RSS that everyone else hasn't, probably nothing.
This is like having your own private assistant. My sister-in-law was Jerry Reinsdorf's personal assistant and the first thing she did everyday was skim all the newspapers for articles about him, the Bulls and the White Sox clip, highlight, and sort as to which he needed to see. That was in the 80's and 90's. Now I can have the same service. Just pick and choose what information I want to keep track of and presto there it is. So simple even I could do it. I can edit it at anytime to keep it current to my interests. This is so amazing I like this technology

Blogs
You could spend hour upon hour reading knitting blogs. Actually I think that is possible on any topic not just knitting. Some are mostly about the topic and a lot are written like a diary discussing the highlights or lowlights of their days. I think the ones that seem relevant to me and I liked more were the ones that focussed more on the knitting.
I could really see that a blog about fiction or different non-fiction topics would certainly be a nice addition to the library page and get used. The next generation of Library use will be interesting indeed. But I would rather be knitting : )

Thoughts on a day
Thursday was a fun, but most of all a learning one.My mind is still wrapping around Sally Melville's class.Best thing is that I went home with ideas and no new yarn this way I can think about what to do next and finish the projects I have going. I am thinking summer sweater for me matching sweater for Seth and Nate (need to find the pattern) Many ideas rolling around
Perfect
Have you ever wished to do 2 things at once? How great would it be to be able to read that best selling novel and knit (or crochet) at the same time. Down time would be just about perfect if I could figure this out
